Student of the Year Awards 2024/25
Building Tomorrow: Growth Through Action

The Student of the Year Awards, which have been refined and updated over the past four decades, are back this year with a renewed commitment to excellence. Taking the theme “Building Tomorrow: Growth Through Action”, the awards will highlight the profound impact of proactive community engagement as a catalyst for wider societal innovation, mindset change and measurable progress. Here, participants are encouraged to reflect on how their accomplishments impact fellow citizens in Hong Kong - and even beyond, shaping a better tomorrow for all.

Throughout the years, the event has served as a unique opportunity to celebrate the diverse talents of the city's senior secondary students. It recognises their outstanding personal achievements and their dedication to helping the wider community overcome difficult times. Within this context, we have witnessed remarkable instances of individuals confronting formidable obstacles, prioritising the well-being of others and driving long-lasting change through their endeavors.

In total, there are twelve student awards in ten distinct award categories. Nominations are welcomed for excellence in academic subjects, sports, visual arts, performing arts, sustainability practices and for best improvement. In addition, there are separate awards for devotion to school and involvement in community service in order to draw attention to the special contributions of students with a talent for planning, organising and leadership, or a particular interest in volunteering and empowering others.

Each category has clearly defined assessment criteria. These are intended to evaluate specific skills in areas such as music or language, but the judges also consider a candidate's all-round academic performance, any other awards or recognition received in the past year and their meaningful involvement in community activities. The aim is to identify and reward excellence, as well as to value cooperation and encourage a mindset that emphasises the importance of extending a helping hand to both friends and strangers.

By participating in the Student of the Year Awards 2024/25, nominees have the chance to share their stories and clarify their longer-term goals. They are asked to submit personal reflections on this year's theme, highlighting how their personal journeys of growth have contributed towards collective advancement and a brighter future for those around them. As they progress to the later stages of the competition, the judges will pose fair but thought-provoking questions that explore their reasons, motivations and ambitions.

Nominees are strongly advised to carefully review the entry requirements for their target category and reflect on how their views and outlook have evolved over the past couple of years. They should also be able to explain clearly how their achievements have contributed to their community, creating wider societal change.
