Student of the Year Awards 2025/26
Leadership in Action: Shaping the Possible

The Student of the Year Awards, which have been refined and updated over the past four decades, return this year with a renewed commitment to excellence. Marking our 45th anniversary with the theme “Leadership in Action: Shaping the Possible”, the awards highlight the profound impact of bold pioneers who step forward with purpose and integrity. Participants are encouraged to reflect on how their proactive leadership serves as a catalyst for meaningful transformation — reimagining what is possible for the citizens of Hong Kong and beyond.

Throughout the years, this event has served as a unique opportunity to celebrate the diverse talents of the city's senior secondary students. It recognises their outstanding personal achievements and their dedication to helping the wider community navigate uncharted territories. Within this context, we witness remarkable instances of individuals confronting formidable obstacles, prioritising the well-being of others, and driving long-lasting change through their courageous endeavours.

In total, there are twelve student awards across ten distinct categories. Nominations are welcomed for excellence in academic subjects, sports, visual arts, performing arts, sustainability practices, and for best improvement. In addition, there are separate awards for devotion to school and involvement in community service to draw attention to the special contributions of students with a talent for planning, organising, and leadership, or a particular interest in volunteering and empowering others.

Each category has clearly defined assessment criteria. These evaluate specific skills in areas such as music or language, but the judges also consider a candidate's all-round academic performance, other awards received in the past year, and their meaningful involvement in community activities. The aim is to identify and reward excellence, while valuing a "spirit of discovery" and a mindset that emphasises the importance of extending a helping hand to both friends and strangers.

By participating in the Student of the Year Awards 2025/26, nominees have the chance to share their stories and clarify their longer-term goals. They are asked to submit personal reflections on this year's theme, highlighting how their personal journeys of growth have enabled them to lead others toward new frontiers. As they progress to the later stages of the competition, the judges will pose fair but thought-provoking questions that explore their reasons, motivations, and ambitions. Nominees are strongly advised to carefully review the entry requirements for their target category and reflect on how their outlook has evolved. They should be prepared to explain clearly how their achievements have contributed to their community, "shaping the possible" and creating wider societal change.
